First agreement between the company and the works councils in the Germany-wide department store restructuring of Kaufhof following the merger of Kaufhof and Karstadt: Last week, the company and the general works council agreed on the conclusion of a comprehensive reconciliation of interests and social plan for the restructuring of Kaufhof. Key elements of the reconciliation of interests and the social plan are the closure of the Kaufhof headquarters in Cologne with approximately 1,600 employees, further staff reductions at 96 branch locations throughout Germany, the reorganization of the facility management and the transfer of the food departments to Karstadt Feinkost. In addition, Kaufhof will introduce a new operating model with specializations in sales activities.

The staff reductions in the branches will be preceded by a volunteer programme to reduce the number of redundancies for operational reasons. The same applies to the introduction of the new operating model, under which some employees are required to change their jobs on a voluntary basis before the company can implement transfer notices or dismissals.
